Ride your own Ride. This means that no matter how fast or slow the group is riding, you should ride at a speed that is comfortable for you. Please pull over and separate yourself from the group if you feel uncomfortable. |
| 2. |
Wait at Major Turns. The ride leader will stop at all major turns so if you get behind, you will be welcomed by the leader at the next major turn. |
| 3. |
Know your Route. Please know your route in case you get separated from the group you can rejoin then at the next stop. You may want to take a detailed map of the riding area with you. |
| 4. |
1st Time Riders Cannot Lead. If you are new to riding with the Santa Barbara BMW Riding Club, you cannot lead a ride. We know from experience that it is very dangerous for people new to riding or riding in a group to lead a ride. Please follow near the rear of the group and let a club member follow you. |
| 5. |
Exchange Phone Numbers. Please exchange your cell phone number with one or more riders in the group. In the case you get separated from the group your cell phone partner can contact you or vice versa. |
| 6. |
Keep The Group Tight. For safety purposes it is better to be seen as a group than scattered. Make every safe effort to catch up to the rider in front of you. If traffic is heavy then the distance between riders should be smaller, so that cars cannot cut between riders. If traffic is light then you can create more distance between riders. |
| 7. |
Speak Up! There are no stupid questions. The group will stop several times during a ride. Some stops will be at intersections, some at designated points. Whenever the group stops, please communicate any concerns or questions you have to one or more riders. Do not keep silent if you have questions about the ride. For your safety and the group's safety, please speak up. |
| 8. |
Learning Never Stops. Please be open to learning from other riders. It's a natural tenancy for the other riders to share with you their tips for safe riding. It doesn't matter if you have been riding for 20 years, we all need to continue our goal of enjoyable and safe riding. Please accept these tips as a sincere desire to help you and others. Don't feel because someone is sharing a tip that you are perceived as a poor rider. |
| 9. |
Getting Tired? Some of the Cub rides can cover distances of several hundred miles. If you feel tired please ride very conservative and give yourself extra distance between riders. If you are sleepy, PLEASE pull over and take a break. We all get tired so don't be bashful, be safe. |
| 10. |
Gas Up! You are expected to begin the ride with a full tank of gas. Please know your driving distance on a tank of gas and make sure you know where you will be getting gas, especially if your tank is smaller than the other riders in your group. |
| 11. |
You are Responsible for Yourself. The Santa Barbara BMW Riding Club is not responsible for your personal safety. If you are not prepared for the dangers that come with riding a motorcycle, riding in a group, riding in unknown areas, etc., PLEASE DO NOT RIDE with the club. The Club does not carry any kind of insurance to cover life or medical expenses. The Officers of the Club are volunteers and in no way are liable for your personal safety. |
